Our local zoo recently opened a new animal area where you can see animals in very nearly their natural surroundings. It's a big to-do here, and numerous other zoo directors were present at the grand opening. I shot this image of the elephant, then modified the environment to get rid of every last vestige of modern humanity (like some buildings in the background, and one area where you could see all the way through the exhibit to some cars). The model was shot in my studio, on a saddle. The image was composited, treated to match colors, and make it look more like night, and then run through some filters to adjust colors, and make it look more painterly.
