Behind The Lens

Location

We had leased a cabin in the wilderness of Colorado that had a large creek along the property. I spend many days walking the path along the edge of the creek with my camera.

Time

I am not sure what time of day this was as I walked the creek path many different times. With the reflection, I think it was probably early morning or later in the day. The light in Colorado is very bright and clear since we were at a high elevation.

Lighting

When I am walking I really don't pay attention to the lighting so much as what the subject is in the light. I mainly wanted to get the reflection of the trees and the sky in the creek. I know that I probably shot in Priority mode since I was hiking and not carrying my tripod. Many times the camera makes the same decision I do as for settings. I know that I did not make many adjustments to this either. I shoot in jpeg mode when I hike since I don't want to edit so many photos.

Equipment

I had a Canon Rebel T3 with the kit lens for this photo. Just point and shoot while I was hiking. Seeing what would capture my attention.

Inspiration

I like making photos of reflections. And also the complementary colors that are associated with Fall. Blue skies and color in the leaves.

Editing

Very little as I shot in jpeg mode. I normally take a wider view and crop and then maybe sharpen just a little.

In my camera bag

I carry a light bag. Usually my Canon camera has the lens I will be using. My favorite for hiking is a 24mm prime. My go to lens for most photography is the 18-135mm. Always extra batteries!

Feedback

Be open to the "chance" photo instead of looking for a particular thing and missing all the other things that are right in front of you.
