I took the image of the Mandarin Duck at Sylvan Heights Bird Park, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, USA.Time
The image was taken around 10:30am.Lighting
It was an overcast day, which helped display the brilliant colors of the Duck.Equipment
I took the image with a Nikon D7100, Sigma 500mm/4.5 lens, mounted on a Sirui 8x carbon fiber tripod and Sirui ballhead.Inspiration
I love to photograph Mandarin ducks because they are such a majestic waterfowl. There colors make an image pop.Editing
Just basic processing in Adobe Lightroom. I believe in showing a subject as it truly appears o the eye.In my camera bag
When shooting waterfowl I usually shot a Nikon D7100 with a 500mm/4.5 lens, a Nikon D4 with a 300mm/2.8 lens, 8x carbon fiber tripod, gimbal and ballhead, portable blind and lots of extra memory cards and batteries.Feedback
With waterfowl, whether in the wild or captive, you have to show patience, and as little movement as possible, so as not to spook the Duck.
