Location
Took this photo out on a trip in the Falkland islands! Unbelievable trip, quite barren but the wildlife is great and the penguins are so friendly!Time
The sun was on its way down as you can see the flaring in the corner of the photo. Great time of day for some silhouetting against the snow.Lighting
I wanted this shot to look tiring and exhausting. I also wanted them to be silhouetted against the snow. I think it came off pretty well!Equipment
Sony A230Inspiration
I have always wanted some great close up shots of penguins. I have travelled South Africa and you just cannot get close to them on the beaches there. You could not beat this experience.Editing
I increased the contrast a tad, brought the whites and blacks out also. I also added a slight circular flare around the sun in the corner to make it 'pop' more.In my camera bag
I normally have a manfrotto light weight traveller tripod, a Canon 5D mk3 and various lenses. This shot was taken with an old camera of mine.Feedback
Get out there and travel. You can watch endless videos and read countless magazines about photography, but you cannot beat in-field experience. Just try things, play around with various settings and really get to know your camera. When you start to think about what you want from a photo before taking it, that is when your photos will take a huge step forward.
