Location
This photo was taken in the downtown area of my hometown of Lufkin, Texas.Time
This shot was taken on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 11:30 am. I often go on what I call photo adventures and this was one of those times.Lighting
It was all natural lighting. At the time this shot was taken I was very new to photography and didn't know much about lighting. In hindsight, even if I possessed my current knowledge of lighting, I wouldn't change anything about the way this shot was lit.Equipment
I shot this on a Nikon Coolpix S9050. I had been bitten by the photography bug and I was out taking pictures with the best equipment I had, which was my handy point and shoot. I have moved on to more sophisticated equipment, but that little Nikon is never too far out of reach.Inspiration
At the time I was new to photography. I had gotten a Nikon Coolpix S9050 for a Christmas present the prior year and had really begun to enjoy photographing cool stuff. I was downtown in my hometown and saw this mural that I had seen a thousand times before except now I was looking at it like a photographer would. I set myself up for what I thought was the best composition and took the picture. It is still one of my favorites.Editing
Unfortunately, at the time I was too new to photography and had no real knowledge of post-processing.In my camera bag
I like to travel light because I often am doing shots that don't take a whole lot of time to set up. Currently, I am using a Sony NEX-3N coupled with a Sony FE 1.8 50MM. Along with that, I have a Yongnuo YN560 IV Speedlite. Also, I carry the Nikon Coolpix S9050.Feedback
I would say there are places you've been to hundreds of times and never took the time to stop and study the scene. When I need a quick photography fix, I always return to downtown to places I have photographed many times in the past. I will always look for an angle I might not have seen before or gone at a different time of day, so the lighting is slightly different. I'm still challenging myself to find something new in a shot I have done at another time. My advice would be to go out and look at things differently and challenge yourself to get the best shot you can.
