I typically do not photograph fruit, but I once I saw the contest category for "Shades of Orange", I immediately wanted to go back in the past and create an old school style portrait. I wanted the picture to take the observer back in art class, where the student was taught how to draw, paint, shade, and highlight with fruit. I went to the grocery store and bought some oranges, a grapefruit, and peaches to show different variations of the color orange. One orange had a hint of green on it; not fully ripe. The peaches had a very blood orange red to them with hints of yellow orange. It was fun arranging the fruit, and even sticking toothpicks in them so they would sit upright. I enjoyed this shoot and better yet, it made me feel like I was painting a classical piece behind the camera.
