Behind The Lens
Location
I was on holiday in Thailand and ended up in little town called Ayutthaya, just a few kilometres north of Bangkok. the image is taken at a temple called Wat Chaiwatthanaram and it's one of many old temples in the town.Time
Sunset, the sun set perfectly on the temple so it all came together brilliantly.Lighting
To Be Honest I was really just playing with my cameras settings and messing with the aperture/exposure. Somehow from about 50 average shots I managed to capture the perfect light and take a pretty good one!Equipment
The Shot was taken on a Nikon d3200 with an 18-55mm lens. I had a plastic $5 tripod with me however i left it in the hotel, which at the time i thought was a mistake however as it turned out, it might have been a godsend.Inspiration
I was just about to leave when i turned around and saw an amazing light on the temple behind me, there was no real inspiration other than the fact that i was in the right place at the right time and was in the mood to fiddle with my camera.Editing
Yes and no. I don't own any decent editing software so for the first edit im pretty sure I used Microsoft Paint. However, a couple of days later a photographer mate of mine liked the photo and let me borrow his computer to touch it up a little on lightroom. So while it is edited, it is edited very basically by someone whos knows very little about how to post process and use Adobe lightroom. In my camera bag
Normally I take my camera, lens, tripod and an intervalometer. I usually pack light to be able to fit other stuff in my bag as for me, photography is something that goes side by side with experience. I rarely take a bag only with camera gear as usually i'm not going places to only take photos, rather im going to experience a location and just happen to whip out my camera and take a few shots.Feedback
Don't check your LED screen after every photo, avoid the temptation. I was checking constantly and discarded every shot I took at that sunset before i had even blown them up and looked properly. Also don't think to take a great photo you need expensive gear, I was using whats regarded as an entry level dslr and the lense that was provided in the same box. Basically photography is an art form and while expensive gear might make that art form easier, anyone can do it, even with just a point and shoot or an iphone.
