Location
I took it at Helsinki City Zoo (Korkeasaari) in a house dedicated for mostly small animals and reptiles living in tropic environment.Time
Afternoon, when there was slight less people. I had to work fast though as people were coming and going and these little guys moved around a lot.Lighting
The light wasn't the best. I didn't use external flash so I don't disturb these animals or create ugly reflection to the glass.Equipment
Canon EOS 6D Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM 100mm/ Settings: ƒ/5.6/ 1/100s/ ISO 800Inspiration
I was spending some quality time walking around the Zoo with my mother, brother and a girlfriend of mine at the time. I've always been really fond of reptiles, so tropical house was what I was waiting for the most. I've seen a lot of gekko's on my travels and always found it really fascinating how they climb any surface effortlessly. Luckily the gekko's were on the move and climbing the glass when I got there. This was the only good picture of the whole set, as the light wasn't the best and people were walking by too.Editing
I added saturation, some clarity to the gekko itself and and softened the background a bit as there was some noise. The bokeh was quite smooth already. I did only camera raw edits on photoshop. Nothing added, nothing removed. In my camera bag
I don't think there is a normal for me. Since this photo I've updated my gear a bit. I have use Canon 6D and usually 24-70mm 4L to go with it. Depending on location or the occasion I use Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 and / or Laowa 12mm 2.8 (which I love by the way!). Sometimes I carry around a acrylic crystal ball for funky perspectives.Feedback
I don't recommend using flash. Respect the animals and don't disturb them. If they don't want to go in the position you want to see them in, don't force them to. Mind the depth of field and reflections!
