Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Indianapolis, Indiana. We have a beautiful canal that runs through part of the city. It is the perfect place to take a walk, have a picnic, and take beautiful photos

Time

This photo was around noon - not the most optimum of times for photography, but this was for my niece's senior pictures and you know how hard it is to get them out of bed early!

Lighting

Since the sun was so direct, I chose to have her stand under a bridge blocking most of the light. Then I used a gold toned reflector to add in a measured amount of light to the photo.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D5000 with a 50/200 Lens

Inspiration

I loved the texture and color of the bridge wall in contrast to her dress - also I was working with harsh light - so I had to be creative

Editing

Not much, got lucky. Softened the light a bit, took care of some fly away hair and blemishes - that is about it.

In my camera bag

Camera (now the Nikon D7200) - Prime 35mm and 50mm lens - batteries

Feedback

Try not to over think it. I don't usually like to take posed photos of people. Since this was my niece, I was a bit more comfortable. I had her sister come with me and she helped ease both of us and made the day a bit more fun. Some of the best shots were ones I took that Hannah didn't even realize I took. Photos can look too posed and too fake - have fun with it.
