Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken on the shores of the beautiful Lake Almanor, California - the ending spot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the gateway to the Cascades. it's a beautiful place to visit or live.

Time

This photo was taken during a beautiful, relaxing weekend at the lake.

Lighting

Both photos were sunset shots which required considerations for lighting.

Equipment

Canon 7D Mark III, 18-135mm lens

Inspiration

The area is so beautiful that taking photos up there is a must!

Editing

I combined two photos to create an overlay or double exposure look. The first photo is from a sunset on the lake and the second photo is of my girlfriend, wearing sunglasses and looking at the lake.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D Mark III and/or Canon T3i and a few various lenses depending on the area and subjects I'm shooting.

Feedback

Seeing as I took two photos and combined them in Photoshop I suggest getting to know the program very well. I have used Photoshop for about twenty years now and the more proficient a person is with it the better the post-production work. I understand there are a lot of people out there who see Photoshop as cheating or a crutch but it is a powerful tool and the knowledge of working with this program is something anyone interested in photography should not be without. Not everything needs to be edited or processed through Photoshop (or other editing software) but knowing how to use a good software editing suite is imperative to the industry and the profession.
