Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at a little zoo in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was injured and couldn't be released back in the wild. She happened to be out when I took this and saw something moving on the ground. That's what she's looking at.

Time

It was mid-morning sometime when I took this. She was pretty active. Normally when I would go see her she was sleeping in her little house.

Lighting

All natural light. I got lucky with the lighting and it hit her just right.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS Rebel with my zoom lens. The zoom lens was able to see through the fencing. I didn't use a glass or a tripod.

Inspiration

Just seeing her inspired this photo. I love owls, especially barn owls. She looked so sweet and loveable.

Editing

I adjusted the black in the photo to make the background darker in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Now I have a Sony A7 and my Canon Rebel but at the time of this photo, I just had my Canon Rebel with my two kit lens.

Feedback

Be patient. I visited her often and she was always in her little house. I just got lucky with her being awake and active. I find that when you're patient with nature and you get that photo, it's worth it. That's the beauty of nature.
