Location
This image of a Yellow Garden Spider was taken at my home. Being a self-taught photographer, this was an experiment in composition and bokeh.Time
I was actually off at another section of my homes porch photographing other plants, lizards and invertebrates, when my wife called to me from around back. Her and my daughter-in-law had spotted this large spider and were calling me to find out what it was. Of course, much to their dismay, as soon as I saw it and its proximity to the walkway, I got down and started photographing it.Lighting
Luckily, this spider had made its web close to the house. It was late afternoon and so the sun was below the roof and the spider and web were in the shade.Equipment
This was shot with the first DSLR I ever owned. I had purchased a used Nikon D5000 kit a couple of years prior that included a 55-200mm zoom and that is what I was using when I took this image.Inspiration
I was still new to digital photography and learning. This image was taken because I thought the composition would be interesting.Editing
I was still very new to digital photography so there was very little if any post-processing done to this image. In my camera bag
I now shoot with a D850 and I have a D810 as a back-up. I also carry my Nikon 50mm, 85mm, 24-70mm, and Sigma 60-600 Sports lenses. There are also some filters, two speed lights and travel tripod.Feedback
You never know what you will find or where. You do not have to go on some great safari (although it would be nice) to make nice images. This was made in my back yard. Be observant, look around, study the world around you where ever you go or happen to be. And SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT...you cannot capture images sitting in front of the TV or computer. Get out there and practice shoot a lot and from different angles. This will help you learn and grow as a photographer.
