This was taken in South East London. Near Borough in a rented apartment.Time
As you can see the "Golden" hour had long passed when this was taken. In fact it was after I had finished working on a conference so would have been around 8 or 9.Lighting
This shot was completely un-planned! Best to get that straight from the off. To be honest I had spent around an hour shooting with Aggy and wasn't getting anything that was making me happy. Aggy is an amazing model and we were getting on like a house on fire so we decided to take a break while we changed things up a bit. I followed her on to the balcony while she had a cigarette. I snapped and the flash popped through the net curtains from where we had been working and that's when we started experimenting with smoke and lighting matches (the observant will notice her cigarette is already lit). This was one of the best shots from that night.Equipment
As always my trusty Canon 5 mk ii and 350 flash gun fired through remote trigger (I hate on camera flash).Inspiration

It was a struggle to get focus in the dark (all the light is ambient and a little flash) and then it was down to communicating to time the shot and the match strike. If I was to recreate this image again I would use a form of continuous light.
