Behind The Lens

Location

Brixton in London

Time

around 2pm

Lighting

there was some light coming through windows that were acting as back lights to a certain degree but I had a speed light firing into a poly as a fill and a 300w head into another poly as a key but as you can see the results were quite flat.

Equipment

trusty Canon 5d ii

Inspiration

i am inspired by beauty and originally the shoot was set up to test for an agency but the communication had gone dry so I put a casting up for models to stand in as I was sure the agency model would flake. The only reply was the Amazing Vic Belany who agreed to reducer her fee for the day and the rest is history, as they say.

Editing

mainly levels as I always get what I want in camera. I also smoothed out the hair on the right side with a little help cloning from another shot. Skin smithing was only minimal as Vic is incredibly beautiful and has amazing complexion.

In my camera bag

Canon 5d ii 24-70 f2.8 and an 85mm f 1.8 and remote triggers (I hate on camera flash).

Feedback

The simple truth in recreating this shot is get the best model and location your budget can afford. As a photographer you should always be thinking about light, light, light and if you have a good model she should bring a wealth of poses.
