Behind The Lens

Location

Fabyan Forest Reserve in Geneva, Illinois.

Time

I photographed this portrait roughly around 9 in the morning. I choose to photograph in the morning because that's when the lighting is ideal for portrait photography.

Lighting

I wanted to capture an element of mystery in this portrait. I had my subject direct her eyes away from the camera to create question in the viewers mind.

Equipment

For this photo I'm simply used my Sony NEX-6. No flash or tripod was used.

Inspiration

This photo was actually part of a senior portrait session, but the lighting and the model were so cooperative with me so I decided to take it a step further and add some artistic element to her session.

Editing

Yes, I used the latest Photoshop software. I fixed minor parts of the photo and then adjusted it to create the black and white layer.

In my camera bag

I always keep my Sony NEX-6, two additional lenses, a reflector/diffuser and always extra battery's and memory cards in case of emergency.

Feedback

If you want to achieve ideal lighting, keep a close eye on your exposure level. Make sure to adjust the aperture for the right lighting, but don't forget to keep the subject in focus also.
