Behind The Lens

Location

This photo of the Inner Lighthouse in Saint Joseph, MI was taken on the North Pier. You can access the pier from Tiscornia Park.

Time

This photo was taken on April 30 2014 as the sun was setting. If memory serves me correctly it was after my evening class at Lake Michigan College's M-Tec building let out early.

Lighting

The orange colors mixing with the clouds moments earlier really caught my eye. By the time I arrived at Tiscornia Park and got my camera out the clouds had completely covered the setting sun. I decided to stick around and take a few snap shots despite the cloud cover.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5100 camera and a Sigma 18mm - 250mm F 3.5-6.3 lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

The colors mixing with the clouds inspired me to take this photo. Due to the cloud cover I was looking in all directs and taking snapshots for use as reference photos. As I was facing toward shore everything suddenly got brighter. I turned back around and saw the sunset poking through the cloud cover.

Editing

For this shot I mainly did some color correction in ViewNX. I also used ViewNX for some light noise reduction.

In my camera bag

Normally I carry just my Nikon D5100 with the Sigma 18 to 250 attached and a spare battery
