Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was take from the beach at Tiscornia Park in St. Joseph, MI.

Time

I took this photo on 4-15-2015 around 8:30 AM.

Lighting

The lighting was an early morning sun being filtered through some light clouds.

Equipment

Camera was a Nikon D5100 with a Sigma 18 to 250mm lens.

Inspiration

I had been taking pictures of the remaining ice along the Lake Michigan shoreline over the last couple weeks between dropping my nieces off at their high school and going to my morning class at M-Tec at Lake Michigan College.

Editing

Using Nikon ViewNX I made a few color corrections used the highlight protection tool to take care of washed out highlights.

In my camera bag

The equipment I carry depends on my intentions for shooting. If I am just going to capture snapshots I only carry the camera, a spare battery with charger, and a micro fiber lens cloth. Any other time I will also carry my speed light, extra memory cards, spare lens covers, spare batteries for the speed light, and a lens hood.

Feedback

Make sure you have a tripod with you when going near a coast line, especially when it is windy. If I had my tripod I would have been able to use a longer shutter speed to show more movement in the water instead of attempting to time the shutter release with waves crashing.
