Location
This is a photo of one of the cascades at Watkins Glen State Park in upstate New York.Time
It was taken, if I remember correctly, sometime around 10 AM.Lighting
It was a sunny day with some light clouds in the sky and light winds tossing them around. Rays of sunlight were cutting through and reaching the deep bottom of Watkins Glen Gorge.Equipment
This image was shot on a Nikon D800 with 24-70 mm F/2.8 on a tripod. The lens was stopped down with Lee's Big Stopper filter.Inspiration
The pattern of the stepped-down cascade and the bright green colors of the water caught my attention and I spent probably 20 minutes just standing and admiring the view.Editing
The image was processed through Adobe Lightroom desktop edition. The edits are cropping and correcting the angle of the image, local adjustments are made to bring out the Gorge walls and tone down sun spots in the foreground. In my camera bag
Nowadays for a trip like that, I would take my Nikon D850 with Nikon's 24-70 mm F/2.8 lens plus a 50 mm F/1.8. Absolutely required items are the ND filters of different strengths and a sturdy tripod. A good addition to the bag for DSLR shooters especially would be a remote control for the camera, either a traditional wired or wireless. This will provide additional stability to the camera when releasing the shutter.Feedback
Since Watkins Glen is a gorge and a state park with an access schedule, you will not be shooting there at sunrise. The park is open from dusk to dawn, but shooting there is complicated until the sun is up and reaches the bottom of the gorge. Walk around, and look for the angles, and spots where you can put down your tripod as the walkways around the river are narrow.
