On a quiet summer night the Acropolis of Athens glows with an aura of history, civilisation and culture. A unique monument of mankind's endeavours for the best, it is a place that I have come to appreciate more every time I visit Athens. A person can stand and marvel at its unparalleled architectural beauty and be forever mesmerised by its visual magnificence. It is only natural that the aesthetic impact of the Acropolis can inspire one to reflect on one's own life and what choices to make to shape it according to one's dreams.

Location
This photo was taken in the historic area of central Athens surrounding the Acropolis.Time
It was a warm August evening as I was walking up the hill of Pnyx that faces the west side of the Acropolis. Throughout the summer, a small crowd is usually spread throughout the archaeological site of Pnyx, enjoying the fair weather while casually gazing at the Acropolis. However, to my surprise, this time there was not a soul in sight.Lighting
Despite being a fairly warm Greek summer night, the air in Pnyx was surprisingly clear, with practically zero distortions. I still do not understand how that could have been. The image of the Acropolis was coming off crisp and clean and one could clearly see all the little details of the magnificent architecture.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D600 and a 50mm f/1.8 lens over a Feizol tripod.Inspiration
Although Acropolis is commonly regarded as a symbol of democracy across the world and is a pillar of the global civilization heritage, there was another, more subtle aspect of it that drew me to the scene. Through its millennia-long travel through turbulent times, Acropolis also stands as a symbol of perseverance of the best rendition of the human spirit.Editing
This photo was post-processed mildly, bringing out the shadows and controlling the highlights in order to balance the overall dynamic range. On top of that, fine-grain sharpening was applied uniformly to the entire photo. In my camera bag
I shoot with a Nikon D600 and I usually carry around a Nikon 16-35mm f/4 AFS, a Nikon 70-200mm f/4 AFS and a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AFS.Feedback
I guess keep trying is one thing that comes to mind as a factor in shooting landscapes. I have been to the same location several times to explore shooting possibilities, but it was this one time that provided the conditions for this picture. You never know how the location conditions will turn out until you get there.
