Location
I was on safari in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, which shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park, in South Africa. The first few days of safari I was frantically snapping photos, thinking that I'd never see these majestic animals again. By day three, I realised that they were not going anywhere and I was able to calm down and be more selective in the photos that I took.Time
It was an early morning in December (summer in South Africa). The staff at Nkorho Bush Lodge woke me up at the break of dawn, in time for a cup of tea, before our early morning game drive departure (the best time to spot game).Lighting
It was a bright and sunny morning. The orangey-brown pattern of the giraffe's coat set against the lush, green backdrop made for a perfect juxtaposed shot.Equipment
I was shooting with a Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera. I believe I had an 18-55mm lens, but I can't remember as this was taken back in December of 2012.Inspiration
A giraffe...4 feet away from me. Who wouldn't take that photo?Editing
Apart from brightening the colour, I didn't edit this photo at all.In my camera bag
I now shoot with a Canon EOS 60D. I have usually have my 17-85mm lens on there for versatile shooting, but I also have a macro lens and a telephoto lens that I carry with me. I carry a tripod and remote control for night shooting. Additionally, I carry the following accessories: an extra battery, battery charger, extra memory cards and my iPad camera connection kit USB-Adapter + SD card reader.Feedback
Patience! It always helps having great subject matter to photograph, but the rest is down to capturing the right moment...And this takes patience and often a bit of luck!
