While on vacation in October 2013, I captured this intense lion at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk.Time
This was an afternoon shot I took while patiently waiting for the lion to show me different emotions. When he stood, that was already a different pose and then he let out a roar. The roar to the zookeeper bringing his meal was so loud and piercing to an otherwise quiet viewing!Lighting
It was a partly cloudy afternoon in October, 2011. No severe shadows so was happy to get the opportunity to see and photograph this beautiful animal.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3100 with a 70mm to 200mm zoom lens.Inspiration
Lions have been my favorite animal to capture in film since I was a teen and learned that I was a Leo by zodiac signs. So every chance to visit zoos, I head to the big cat area. I can easily spend a couple of hours looking for different angles, poses, emotions that show the diverse personalities of these beautiful animals. I love their regal power but quiet demeanor as well.Editing
No post-processing was done.In my camera bag
I have limited equipment since being robbed of my Nikon equipment. I use a Canon Rebel with a wide angle lens, 75mm - 200mm zoom lens and a tripod.Feedback
I have to enjoy what I am shooting in order to be patient in getting that beautiful shot. So lots of patience in shooting animals to give them time to move around for you..
