I took this photo at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, in California. We were visiting some family in the Bay Area and on our way home to Southern California, we decided to take our kids to see the aquarium and all the wonderful and beautiful creatures they have there.Time
I know this was taken sometime after noon. I am not sure exactly. I know we had eaten lunch already. Sorry. It was so long ago that I took this shot I don't recall the time.Lighting
I remember I was playing with the presets on my camera. I know the flash will reflect off the aquarium glass, but luckily there was enough light coming from above in the tank that I didn't require it. So this is really just the regular lighting in the tank.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3100, with the 18-55mm lens. I don't have any other equipment except a tripod and I don't normally carry that around with me. I had the rapid shot on so I would have a better chance of getting a good one.Inspiration
I was watching how graceful the Sea Turtles were in there exhibit and I wondered if I could get a good enough shot of them. I must have snapped about 30 or so pictures. I saw this one and fell in love with it. The colors and the focus were just right.Editing
If I did any it was just cropping to take out excess and make the Turtle the focus. Though to be honest I do not think I did any. Again it was at least 5 years ago.In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Nikon D3100, 18-55 mm lens, and 2 Canon Power Shots, plus the battery chargers for all 3 and extra SD cards.Feedback
Patience, sometimes it takes a while to get just the right shot. I have 3 kids and when looking for something specific from them it can take a while. Same thing goes for animals. They do not always want to cooperate. Be patient. When you think they are going to do what you want, have your camera set to rapid fire, so you have a better chance of capturing just what you want. A professional photographer friend of mine, once told me, do not be surprised if you take 100 or more shots and only 1 or 2 come out the way you want. So I generally try to get my camera to rapid shoot, even if the speed is not as fast as I would like just so I can have a slightly better chance of capturing the shot I want.
