Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Assateague Island, Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge a few years ago. This blue heron was down in a little hidden area not seen by everyone easily.

Time

This is one of my favorite pictures because I feel like I captured the absolute beauty of this bird. It has such beautiful colors and is so stately! My husband took me for a ride so I could take some pictures and we came up on this beautiful bird. This was taken sometime in early afternoon.

Lighting

I wanted to capture this picture to show the beautiful colors of the blue heron. This one has been around for a really long time and is just regal!

Equipment

At the time, I only had a Sony camera and was just learning how to take pictures. My camera was hand held so I was happy with the way it came out without any tripod or flash or special lense.

Inspiration

I love to take pictures of wildlife and Chincoteague Island provides me with all kinds of opportunities to do just that.

Editing

The only thing I did with this picture was to enhance the color to get the beautiful colors of the heron.

In my camera bag

I usually have three cameras in my bag- plus my phone...

Feedback

My best advice for capturing something similar is to have plenty of time to just stand and wait for the bird. Have plenty of time to just be patient and wait for the picture you want to capture. It's well worth the time!
