Location
During a crisp July in the San Juan Islands, off the coast of Friday Harbor, my journey as a photographer allowed me to be out capturing the Killer Whales in the area. On the way back to the harbor, as we passed harbor seals, whales, and a variety of birds, we came around the corner of the island to this amazing ship.Time
The best time of day. The hours before sunset (sunset is a bit different that far north), when the animals are out hunting, and drinking, and life is buzzing all around.Lighting
It was around 7pm but there was still light until 11:30 that night. The prolonged sunset made for golden hours, not just hour. The cold air and haze it created, lit up the ships.Equipment
I used a canon 6d and switch between my canon 24-105 lens and my larger tamron 200-600 lens.Inspiration
This ship reminded me of being on an adventure and photography for me is always an adventure.Editing
For this image, I edited it in light room, just enhance the colors that were already there and cropping it to where I liked it.In my camera bag
My canon 6d. My 70-200 lens, my 25-105, 50mm and 85mm lenses, lens clearer, crystals for light effects, red lipstick (comes in handy for a variety of uses in my creative portraits), tripod, extra batteries, safety pins, and a Clif Bar incase I stay out later than expected.Feedback
Go to Friday Harbor and any of the San Juan Islands. This picture doesn't do the area justice. There are so many wonderful places, animals, and adventures to be had there.
