Yangshuo: Situated in the Guangxi province of China, is a small but busy place surrounded by stunning mountains and charming fishing villages. During my visit, I went to see some traditional cormorant fishing on the Li River. The trained cormorants swim around the raft, and when they have a catch the fisherman brings his friend back on board to spit it out. The fishermen loosely tie some string around the throat of the cormorant which prevents them from swallowing large fish, however they can help themselves to the smaller ones! At one point we saw the cormorant go crazy and dart to the place where immediately a really big fish jumped high out of the water and managed to swim away!
Here is my photo of the fisherman and his cormorant. There was a lantern placed above him but just in front and to the side so the lighting was exactly how I would have wanted it if I was using flash. I love the bright blue eyes of the cormorant!
