Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the Cottonwood River, just south of Emporia, KS on a rock that was jutting out from the side of the bank.

Time

I did a little searching for this spot as the bridge and most of the highway leading out south of town was flooded over and closed. I was able to hike through the water down to this spot around 2 pm when it was deemed safe to be in the area.

Lighting

The lighting was absolutely great that day. It had just rained and the sky was so blue and the clouds were super puffy and created a great contrast and some awesome lines in the sky.

Equipment

I shot this with a Nikon D3300 18-55 mm kit lens with no other equipment involved.

Inspiration

The river was moving so fast and the current was so strong I had to try and capture the beauty of such a strong and devastating storm as it moved out of my area.

Editing

Yes I bumped up the clarity and contrast a bit. The colors were pretty much perfect because of the lighting. I brightened up some of the darker spots.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D3300 and a kit lens is usually a go to for me being mobile and traveling light.

Feedback

Take your time and really focus on the composition. Landscapes are rough because conditions can change within seconds.
