This is a life-sized statue of Glenn Gould outside the CBC Toronto Office (Ontario, Canada)Time
This picture was taken in August 2014 in mid-afternoon. We were tourist-walking in downtown Toronto when we came upon this statue and as any good teenager in the electronic age, she struck a pose... and as a amateur-wannabe-photographer I grabbed my camera to capture the moment.Lighting
As far as what I did and how I did it, I have to say it was luck, a good camera and a bright sunny day. Didn't really have time to think about it.Equipment
Now because my camera saves this information I can tell you this: Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T3i; Aperture: f/2; ISO: 200; Shutter Speed: 1/400; Focal Length: 50/1.Inspiration
This was a spare of the moment thing. I'd love to take more people picture, but I hate having people pose for me. Much prefer candid shots, so when my friend 'struck a pose' I lucked out with perfect timing.Editing
Although I am a graphic designer by trade, I am not much on post-processing except for maybe some cropping where needed. In this case, the only other thing I did was convert it to black and white as I thought it fit the moment! In my camera bag
Being a beginner / amateur-wannabe photographer, my equipment is basic. My gear consists of camera, 50mm lense and telephoto zoom lense. Always carry spare battery and charger and USB cable, never know when they can come in handy. Last but not least..... snacks. You see my camera brings me on Canon-therapy walks that allow me to explore Canada's Capital and other great places. This is how I disconnect, however in such cases where it takes longer or I get lost (yep, twice) then they are a must.Feedback
ok, well being a newbie myself I feel awkward giving advice, but what I would like to say (or the way I tend to do this): don't try so hard, go with your instinct. The beauty with digital photography is that mistakes will not cost you anything, in fact they will help you learn, and some mistakes can turn out pretty awesome. There are still many features on my camera that I have not yet explored, but I have to say that I am having fun and if I may be so bold, I am getting good results along the way.
