This photo was taken in my studio… a.k.a. my apartment. I still consider myself a newbie so whenever I have some free time, I dig out my camera and play.Time
Magnum, my little man, is my favorite subject and he is very patient with me. I am lucky to have many windows in my place so I get natural light most of the day depending in which room I’m in. So before his mid-afternoon nap, my model was willing to strike a pose or two.Lighting
My preference has always been natural light, but I am trying different things to learn how to use it better. Unfortunately that one was just a lucky shot, light wise.Equipment
I shot this with my trusty Canon EOS REBEL T3i on automatic, no trip, no flash just natural light. I almost always use my zoom 70-300 to shoot my pets and other animals so I can get close enough for detail shot without being physically too close to annoy them (or have them play with the camera).Inspiration
My little man is my inspiration. There is so much detail just in his face, that I could take 100 pictures and they would all capture something new - like he's got freckles. Being a very patient model, I often practice with him. Whether it is in natural light or playing around with different flash options or other lighting, he is always there for me (and his rates are good). This is how I learn things about my camera or photography in general.Editing

Being a newbie, my camera gear is not that extensive, yet. I like to do what I call ‘Canon-therapy’ which is going out for a walk or a hike to discover the world in a new light and through different eyes. Since I rarely know where my adventures can take me, I pretty much trek it all. I call it exercise. My bag features my trusty Canon EOS Rebel T3i, with three lenses, prime 50mm, zoom 70-300 and an 18-135 and always a spare battery. With these, for now, I find I have my bases covered for most adventures.Feedback
I hate giving out advice as I feel I am still in the beginner stages of photography. However what I can say is that take photography as an adventure and play with your camera. Now that we are in the electronic era and that you can see the results almost instantaneously… try, try, try. Try everything, play with the settings take pictures of something or nothing. A glass of water could be a great subject and is always available. Look up some tricks and try them out. Try anything, it won’t cost you and the results may even surprise you.
