Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my boyfriend's parent's house a few years ago back in around 2013. I noticed the sun shining behind this Orchid that they had sitting by the dining room window and got my camera out! I love nature photography and capturing the beauty of it to share with others.

Time

This was taken in the early evening as the sun was setting, I saw a photo opportunity and took it!

Lighting

All natural lighting was used, no lights or flash just natural daylight. I loved the effect that the sunlight gave to these Orchids, it has a very warm feeling to it. I even love how the sun shows up the dirt on the window, It gives it an almost sparkly feeling around the Orchids.

Equipment

You'll have to forgive my poor memory as I can't remember what lens I was using but this was shot with a Canon 10D, no tripod, flash or other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I'm just a hobbyist photographer with limited resources and a passion for capturing the beauty in life that so many people often overlook. I have a big love for nature photography: plants, flowers, bugs, anything nature related that I can step outside my door and capture the beauty of in hopes to share it with the world. I always have some idea of how an image will look once It's finished and what it is that I'm trying to create. I can see the image before I have even taken the photo and I do my best to create what I can see so that others can see it too!

Editing

In all honesty, I don't do very much in the post-processing process. I don't have any fancy photo editing software on my PC and the thought of trying to learn it is quite daunting. I just do what I need to do to in order to make my image stand out a little bit more which involves me uploading my image onto a photo editing website such as Pixlr and just enhancing the colours to give it more definition and to help create the image I had in mind.

In my camera bag

As my resources are limited, the only items that I carry in my camera bag is my Canon 10D, charger and the USB for transferring onto the PC.

Feedback

Just go for it! You've got nothing to lose. I've been into nature photography for around 8 and half years, I've never had the best equipment to use but I just see something and try my best to capture what I can see. It's all in the eye and the angles you use. You don't need the most expensive equipment to capture something beautiful. If I really need to use the flash on my camera, I will, but for the most part I honestly just use natural daylight and then see what I can do in post-procressing to make the colours stand out more. I am proud of what I feel I have accomplished with the very limited knowledge I have as well as equipment. You can do anything you set your mind to!
