Location
This photo was taken in a Johannesburg suburb Melville. South Africa. He is what we call a car guard. They are normally homeless people and they help one to find parking for a small fee. They make a meagre income from this endeavour. They tend to work close to shopping centers or places where there is a demand for parking.Time
I took this photo at approximately at 9H00Lighting
The street was shaded and there was a black painted wall behind him. Street photography does not always give one a choice of lighting. One must use whatever is available. These photos take few seconds to shoot.Equipment
I used a canon 7D and a 50 mm f1.8 lens.Inspiration
Moments like this present themselves in a split second. Street photography is my inspiration. One must be aware and ready in the moment.Editing
Yes I did. The background was dark, the subject was also dark. I applied dodging and burning to bring out the skin texture. In my camera bag
When I go out for street photography I only take may camera and one lens. Normally a 18-135 kit lens. Which in my opinion is a highly underrated lens. 99% of my street photography is taken with this lens. I have a Canon Mk 2, Canon 70-200mm L f4, Sigma 10-20mm. I replaced my Canon 50mm f1.8 with a canon 85mm f1.8 and a Cano 24-105mm L f4Feedback
It is a photo taken in a split second. To replicate this shot is impossible. However there are plenty of opportunities to take amazing photos in the streets. One must be aware of one's surrounding and ready to take a image very quickly. There is not always time to think about composition, lighting etc. My camera settings are aperture priority, f8, iso 100. A good option to prevent low shutter speeds, as the light changes constantly is auto iso setting.
