Location
I took this shot in the Bahamas. I was working for a scuba diving outfit, and I got a chance to crew on the boat during one of our expeditions to dive with tigers and bulls. My boss swam over to me to drop off a camera and I shot off a lot, this was one of them. One of my crown jewels as a photographer.Time
This shot was taking during the early to mid afternoon. I was on my second dive of the day when as noted above, my boss swam over to give me one of his cameras to shoot these tigers and reef sharks as they came by.Lighting
I used natural lighting, no flash.Equipment
Just a Canon Mark 3D. No flash, tripod, however it being underwater it was encased in a housing.Inspiration
I've always been inspired by sharks, by our marine environment. I want to help save our oceans and its inhabitants. For us to be able to survive, our oceans must survive us.Editing
Yes, I cropped the photo to keep the diver out of the shot. I increased the saturation and contrast to make it look more blue. I wanted to have the tiger stand out but it already does, and with the two reef sharks in the background I figured it was a perfect shot. It looks great in black and white. In my camera bag
I have my gopro, my 3 lenses, filters, both neutral density and gradient. I have my camera body as well as my battery charger. Wires to hook up my camera to a tv and a computer. Some manuals, just in case. Lens cleaner. More to come, eventually.Feedback
I was in the right place at the right time, but there's nothing wrong with going out and trying to better your shots. When I got my camera, there was a gentleman that told me to always keep shooting. I have not stopped and my photography has only gotten better. The only issue is the time I have to edit my shots. Don't be afraid to go for the shot, but also don't be afraid to be in the water with these animals. Mutual respect is all it takes, but remember to enjoy the moment. At the moment, that's the best advice I can give.
