The harvest moon rises over L'Eglise de St Jean Baptiste in Pomerol, the tiny Bordeaux Right Bank Commune where legendary wines are created. I was driving a tiny, beat-up Renault through Pomerol to a small winery for dinner, and when I turned on a small road through vineyards, this sight revealed itself. I literally slammed on the brakes, braced the Nikon and monopod as best I could through the opening of the sunroof, leveled it off with a cork and a soft lens pouch, and fired away. This picture, in October 2009, was a portent of the quality of that particular vintage, which is now widely acclaimed to be one of the greatest ever.
