Location
This shot was taken at Crystal Cove State Park at a beach between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach in California. I live near the Pacific Ocean in Orange County so a few of my photos are shot by the sea.Time
I believe this was taken early afternoon when the sun is about 45 degree angle from the horizon.Lighting
The sun by the sea can be harsh because of the reflective waters and sand but there were some clouds that day so the sun rays are a little bit forgiving.Equipment
The Sony A6000 mirrorless camera and the SEL50F18 lens was used. No flash or tripod were used.Inspiration
Spotting a yellow flower washed up on the sand looked incongruous and out of place. This was what attracted my attention. This was a shot not set up in any way since on hindsight I could have taken out the green stalk that cuts the photo at the bottom. Any shot of an out of place object and anything that doesn't belong in an environment make out for an interesting photo. So I decided to make the flower as my main subject with the blurred rocks and ocean in the background to give the image depth. An articulating screen on my camera certainly helped to make me able to shoot low.Editing
The usual cropping, contrast and saturation adjustments and sharpening in lightroom were applied. In my camera bag
I primarily use Sony mirrorless gear. My main camera bodies are the Sony A7ii, A6000 and RX100iv. I also have the lenses, SEL1635z for landscape, SEL85F14GM for portraits, a SEL50F18 and a SEL2470 as an all around lensFeedback
To capture something similar, one had to look for anything out of order or out of place. The strangeness always attract interest.
