Location
This photo was taken in my back yard, my son just happened to drop by with my granddaughter who had been sleeping in the car.Time
It was mid-afternoon, the shade from the house was blocking the direct sunlight.Lighting
I did not use flash or any other type of lighting, it is just daylight, in the shade of the house.Equipment
I used a Nikon D80, f/6.3, 1/60 sec, 450 mm, ISO 400, with a Sigma DG 150-500mm 1:5-6.3 APO HSM lens. No flash, no other equipment. I was quite a ways away from her at the time, and the shot was completely unplanned, I just snapped four pictures of her and this was the best one.Inspiration
Well she is the cutest child on the planet, and I shoot her often, now, but I was trying out the lens that day because we had just bought it and I snapped everything around me that afternoon, and this was the gem that came from it.Editing
I did very little post-processing, it was pretty good, I think I may have brightened the exposure a little and I cropped it a little bit...In my camera bag
I am pretty much a noob (newbie) photographer! I have an old Nikon D80 and a new D3200. I have the Sigma 150-500 mentioned earlier, the standard Nikon 18-55, actually two of them, a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 55-200MM 1:4-5.6 GII ED DX VR, a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50MM 1:1.8 G, a Quantaray AF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 LD tele-macro, an old Tamron AF aspherical LD 28-200mm, and SADLY, a Sigma 14mm Aspherical that I recently DROPPED (insert sick feeling here) so it no longer focuses. Sigma won't touch it because it's old, but maybe I can get a repair somewhere... I have a sunpak PZ40X flash, and a ring flash and some umbrellas and lights... but I don't use them much. I have a Dolica 68" proline tripod that I love, and it was pretty inexpensive! I somehow cracked one of the leg locks, and they sent me a new leg no questions asked (Lieutenant Dan, you got a new leg!) I know my equipment is pretty entry level, not super expensive, and I would love to get into some higher end stuff, but I really enjoy taking pictures and the things I have in my bag get the job done for me. Except for the lens I dropped... That one bums me out.Feedback
Well, I'm a noob (newbie) and I have a day job. Practice, practice, practice. One thing that I do, is catch free webinars on Creative Live and other sites when I can, and experiment the heck out of settings. The more you take, the better you understand your settings. Shutter speed is my friend, and I tend to use shutter priority to catch crisp images. A lot of my earlier photos are a little fuzzy, and that was why. I always take my camera where the grandkids are, and I snap quite a few, and sometimes I get some really top notch shots, and other times I get closed eyes and runny noses. JUST KEEP TRYING! The good ones will happen.
