Location
Cocoa Beach Florida at the Cocoa Beach pier.Time
In the morning at around 6:30 AM, sunrise.Lighting
The morning's sunrise was the source of lighting. The early morning at the beach always has the most pure light available each day.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Sony Alpha 55V using a Tamron 35 to 70mm zoom lens. The camera was hand-held and no flash was used.Inspiration
I was taking sunrise shots and saw the birds swarming around the pier and at that point several surfers were just entering the water to ride the waves. I felt that the sunrise, birds, and surfers combined to make a more complete picture of the morning's environment.Editing
The picture was taken n the Raw format. I then used Photoshop to process the photo and bring out the morning's colors. I made the most use of Photoshop's Camera Raw filter to reduce some highlights and sharpen the image of the pier.In my camera bag
I now have a Sony Alpha 99 V2 camera, Tamron 35 to 70 mm, Tamron 70 to 150, Tamron 150 to 600 mm zoom.Feedback
Obviously, sunrises and sunsets require you to be at the right place at the right time, but you need to scout out the shot ahead of time to find any collateral images you want to include. For instance, you have the sky, beach, and sun, but in my case, there's the pier, birds, and surfers. These images must be considered to add interest to the sunrise.
