Location
Jerome Bertrand Studio is an extraordinary space of creativity and no wonder this shot came out the way it did because the environment was perfect to allow it to emerge from the subject. As owner of the studio, I can use time and ressources in partnership with a great team of artists to explore crazy things like throwing glitters in the air and moduling light the perfect way.Time
I believe it was during an evening but to be honest; once we start getting in the mood, time becomes abstract and I cannot recall which part of day it was.Lighting
In photography school you are thought to never blow out your whites and blacks. Sometimes it's worth trying the opposite! You will notice that the rim light on this shot is partially blown and this gives a sculptural effect of pushing the model forward from the background. The rest of the lights are calibrated to even out the makeup and highlight the glitters crafted by Auriane (Best makeup artist ).Equipment
I use a Canon 5D Mark 2 and a 50mm lens 1.4f. Profoto speedlights (3) and a black backdrop.Inspiration
It is said that each and everyone of us are a star in the sky. What if the universe is so vast that perhaps we are entire galaxies? None the less there is a relation between the cosmos and the human being that is magic and studied by our ancestors. It will continue to be examined by future generations. We tried to explore this idea with a single image of Chantal. She embodied a deity of distant stars united to form an orgone of feminine power. The simplicity of a subject and very little artifact, let's us delve in the perspective of just how complex our bio-system can be. Glitters look like our fabric might be made of tiny suns, illuminating a whole that has will and intension. And her eyes, they lead us there...Editing
The original raw file was solid enough so I could get away with simple calibrations in lightroom and almost no photoshop.In my camera bag

Let your imagination guide you in creating a narrative that can be universal. Cherish the people that help you and build on teamwork. Don't let equipment stop you from storytelling. Know the laws of technicality but don't be afraid to bypass them once in a while. Be proud of yourself, contributing to the world new ideas and images that will collectively be received and embellish life. Stay humble for the infinite is also microscopic.
