Location
This photo was taken at Fort Jefferson, 90 miles off the coast of Cuba on a coral atoll. It is a Civil War fort that was almost never used, never fully completed and is one of several in the South that the Union Army built to house prisoners of the "Southern Aggression" as it is called. <g> It's most famous inmate was Dr Samuel Mudd ("your name is Mud" came from this man's name), the physician from Maryland who was convicted of aiding John Wilkes Booth after he assassinated President Lincoln in Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. Interestingly, Yellow Fever ravaged the prisoners on Fort Jefferson and Dr Mudd heroically treated one and all saving many lives. For this, he was granted a pardon and released.Time
Midday. Hot, tropical, Caribbean sun.Lighting
The diffuse lighting of the Fort was perfect and needed almost no adjusting whatsoever. The open arches and the direct overhead sunlight provided almost stage-like lighting.Equipment
Nikon D90, 18-3400mm lens, no flash, no tripod.Inspiration
I am a huge lover of architecture and particularly perspective. I see the world through a viewfinder so this shot was just there waiting for me to take it.Editing
Almost none. I lightened the exposure just a notch or two to brighten the detail in the shadows. In my camera bag
All depend son the time of day, the purpose of the trip, the destination, and what I suspect the potential shots might be. I keep a sleeve of filters including a macro lens just in case I see something smallish.Feedback
Shoot in burst mode! One of them will be closest to perfection, or at least what your are thinking perfection for that time and place should be.
