Location
This picture was taken in the atoll of FAKARAVA, in the south side. Near to the beach a coral wall create a pool, where you can swim with a lot of fishes. I lived on this atoll 7 years with 850 peoples.Time
As a scuba instructor, I was guiding a group of diver, and for a lot of reason, I liked to finish my dive in this pool. Come back on the beach, where few friends wait for us with a open fresh coconut. This day they was a lot of hibiscus around the beach. It was may be 12:00, the sun up in the sky.Lighting
The light was just good to not have a to big contrast with the sky and the fish underwater.Equipment
I used a Nikon D200, lens 18-55 mm, housing sea and sea, 1 strobe but I didn't used it on this shot.Inspiration
I always try ( as everyone) to create a unique shoot, something that nobody did before, a shoot you make some poetry from a underwater world. The flower red in opposition with the blue was great. I try to have some shark in the background, but they was too shy.Editing
A little with a contrast and the color, a small crop for the rule of third, nothing more.In my camera bag
Now I use a Nikon D7100, with a fisheye lens, underwater housing sea and sea and 2 strobe. Depends on the pictures than I expect to do, I have a macro port for the housing, and I use the 18-55 mm with a macro ring. I want to have enough money to buy the 105 mm macro.Feedback
The must difficult part with this type of shoot is in first to create a perfect line with the sky and the water. A wide angle is a requirement, a flat water surface help. To be sure to not have water on the top part to the dome, where there is the sky put some rainix, great product used for windscreen to help the water to drop on the glass surface to your housing. And the most important patience. The fish moved, the flower drift with the wind, I did few shot to have a shoot not perfect, look the tail fish on the right side, on the head on the left side, but where my composition is nice.
