Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard in late summer/early fall.

Time

It was late afternoon.

Lighting

I love the beauty of this time of day in late summer/early fall. It's slightly golden and the perfect back-lighting for shots like this.

Equipment

I hand held my Canon DSLR, with a 70-200 mm Lens.

Inspiration

I had been trying throughout the day to photograph a hummingbird. If you've seen them, you know how fast they are, and i had failed to capture a good shot. Well, i was praying for a miracle of sorts so i could photograph one. I really , really wanted the chance! Suddenly this little lady flew up, took a sip from my honeysuckle vine, and sat down on my fence not more than 4 feet in front of me. I quickly composed my shot, snapped a few, and she turned to look at me for this shot, and then she was gone. One of those moments that stick with you forever. I'll never forget it. Or her.

Editing

Basic RAW processing in ACR and Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I'm a Canon girl.I always have my 70-200 mm L series lens, a 50 mm 1.8, and my 24 mm 2.8 lenses.

Feedback

I think my situation is perfect for showing people that you have to keep trying! Don't give up if you don't get the shot right away. It'll happen, and when it does, it'll be great.
