Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is among the many experimental shots I've taken with the camera my sister gave me. This was a rose from my personal garden which was taken indoors.

Time

This shot was taken during the day while indoors but I decided to use a black background, no lighting except for the flash.

Lighting

An inexpensive trick I learned in my photography course for diffusing the flash was using simple scotch tape. That's it!

Equipment

This shot was taken with a Sony Cybershot camera which was a gift from my sister.

Inspiration

I think it was the colors that inspired to take this photo. There's something about bright, vibrant colors in nature that interest me. I guess I wanted to see where my skill level was at capturing the vivid colors and the true essence of nature. I've taken one course in Photography while studying Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, so I'm still at novice at this field.

Editing

This was my first time using Adobe Lightroom which I LOVE! I adjust the clarity a bit and didn't really need to fool with the exposure. The colors were also adjusted to give it a little more vibrancy.

In my camera bag

My little handy Sony Cybershot camera is all I have. No special lenses or extra flash. Nothing fancy, just the compact camera.

Feedback

I took SEVERAL shots before finding the angle I wanted - and I LOVE flowers, nature, etc. Again, I'm still a novice at this but the only advice I can give is be bold and unique with your shots. And do YOU - don't take shots thinking someone else will dig it. Capture moments, subjects that have meaning to YOU. Usually, viewers can see the love you put into it and will dig it, too.
