Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home. I had bought fresh flowers, which is a rare treat, and decided to take a couple of photos.

Time

I believe this was during the day, however I decided to have a dark backdrop with plenty of negative space.

Lighting

The flash was important in capturing the detail. That was the only lighting used for this shot. I just used simple scotch tape over the flash to soften the light.

Equipment

I used a Sony digital camera which was a gift from my sister.

Inspiration

I see photographs of flowers everywhere but I decided to make these photos more intimate from what we usually see - up close and personal. Besides, they were to gorgeous to pass up a photo up; wanted to capture them before they wither away.

Editing

This was my first time using Adobe Lightroom which is a great software for beginners. A lot of post production software can be rather intimidating but the features are very user-friendly. I also didn’t have to do much post-processing except light adjustment and contrast.

In my camera bag

The only equipment I have with me most of the time is my Samsung Galaxy S9 which take great shots.

Feedback

The only advice I have when capturing a similiar shot is getting close and making the lighting work for your subject. Anyone can take a photo of an apple, for example but with the right lighting and capturing the detail, you make the viewer see the fruit in a different way.
