I took this photo at Lady Elliot Island which is in the southern Great Barrier Reef.Time
This was taken during a sunset snorkel on the deeper waters of the island.Lighting
The last light of the day was refracting through the water. I knew I needed to dive down deep to capture this beautiful illuminated loggerhead turtle.Equipment
I used an Aquatech underwater sports housing with a Canon 5D Mark 3 and fisheye lensInspiration
I love the great outdoors, especially below the surface of the water. Turtles are my favourite marine animal so I try and visit locations where they are known to be.Editing
I used Adobe Light Room to adjust the raw image. I lightened the coral underneath the turtle as it was slightly underexposed.In my camera bag

If you haven't done underwater photography before, I recommend that you practice with the equipment before going on a shoot as it can be very difficult to swim with large buoyant gear. I highly recommend Aquatech gear for snorkeling depths! If you're shooting pictures of turtles its best to be in line or underneath them otherwise they tend to blend into their surroundings.
