Behind The Lens

Location

this photo was taken in a paddy field near my village. some time after i bought my new camera, i like to take a shoot of amazing sunset here, while also learning about photography.

Time

i went to this crop field around 17:00. i took some photos while waiting for the light to be 'stronger'. the sky slowly change from orange-yellow to vermillion near the end of that afternoon. and before the Maghrib time (around 17:30), the sky is gradually changing its colour.

Lighting

the light changing from light-orange to mild orange. and then i saw clouds moving and change shape. the beautiful orange sunlight diffused by the clouds to the farm field. and in the far hills, i saw trail of fog which create beautiful effects to the landscape.

Equipment

that was several weeks after i bought my very first camera. the Canon EOS 1100D with standard lens kit.

Inspiration

i was very excited of having new camera. and i want to improve my photography skill. i self taught the theory from some websites and practicing it in every place. from my own room, my own home, and i want to learn a lot about how some people could take that amazing photos. so i practiced my landscape photography skill in the farm field near my house because the sunset could be seen well from there without obstruction.

Editing

my camera did not capable to capture high dynamic range of the photos. so i add graduated ND filter from LR and enhance the contrast, vibrance and white balance.

In my camera bag

this is my very first camera, so i just went to the place with my EOS 1100D in my bag. nothing else.

Feedback

actually this is something that i learn from myself. the first time i want to shoot sunset, i tought the light is best in the early afternoon. but then i realized that the light is better if you could find the object or composition that suit or best for the light. for example when i want to shoot close up of a rice grass, the early afternoon light is better because the light is not really harsh and create soft gradient background. but when i want to shoot of the sunset sky, the late light is better because the colour is stronger and gave a great effect to the clouds.
