Location
A road trip around the Puget Sound area in Washington led us a place called Deception Pass. Part of this area is Bowman Bay State Park. It is the same place my wife and I had our wedding, so we return there often.Time
After having a late afternoon picnic lunch we knew sunset was going to be spectacular. We decide to wait it out and was rewarded with one of most colorful sunsets one can see. There was a person on the sailboat that had an even better view. Moments before this image was taken, he was standing on the deck and would have made a great silhouette.Lighting
The lighting was just... well.... spectacular. What more can be said.Equipment
This image was shot with a Canon 7D and a 70-300 Tamron Lens. There was a lot of images taken in the span of these 10 minutes. This is one of the best of them.Inspiration
Sometimes you are at a place and you just know the lighting is about to get insane. This was one of those times.Editing
I adjusted the composition for this image. I sharpened it and added some some warmth to the color. I also make sure that nothing was clipped off in the highlights. In my camera bag
I have my Canon 7D and now also my Canon 6D mark . My current lens are my Canon 24-105 IS USM. I do my closeup with a 100mm f2.8 macro. A new lens to my kit is my Tamron 150-600 Di VC. I love that lens for wildlife images. My other go to items are several batteries, a Polarizer for each lens. I have a folding gray scale card I use a lot to set custom lighting for my white balance. I also carry a black 8x10 card with a 4x5 cutout I use to help me previsualize some of my images. My old college professor taught me that one.Feedback
If you even slightly suspect that the light might do something amazing in the next hour or two or three or four... DONT EVEN THINK OF LEAVING!!!
