This photo was taken in an old car cemetery in Ryd, Sweden- Bilkyrkogård Kyrko Mosse. The scrapyard was started in the 1940's and has been taken over by nature. There are many old cars and other vehicles that have now become swallowed up in the forest.Time
We had been exploring the car cemetery for a while and were on our way out when we walked by this car and I had to stop and take some photos. I thought it was odd to find the sweater hanging in the window of a car that had clearly been in the junk yard for so many years. Although this was taken at midday, the trees of the forest provided very nice cover to diffuse the bright sun.Lighting
The lighting was dappled with the trees so I felt it necessary to shoot several exposures to make HDR images.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 7D with at Tamron 28-75mm lens at 42mm. ISO 160, f/6.3Inspiration
I came across this junkyard online while looking for interesting places to visit in Sweden. It looked like a great place to visit and take some photos. So we planned a trip with a few friends and made the drive. It did not dissappoint us. There are lots of very old cars and great photo opportunities. This photo being my favourite of the trip. I just felt that the sweater hanging in the window gave it more of a story than a lot of the other cars there.Editing
I took a few different exposures as the light was inconsistent from the bright sun and overhead trees then merged in to an HDR image. I then saturated my colours. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 7D with me. Then the lenses I bring depends on the subject. I always use my 85mm 1.8 for my son's indoor basketball games. If I'm out and about I will have my wide angle 10-22mm and either my 28-75mm 2.8 or my 18-270mm lens for versatility.Feedback
This photo was taken in the forest where the light was very scattered. I would recommend taking a few different exposures and merge to HDR images so make sure you use a tripod. Of course if it was a cloudy day it would not be necessary to make HDR images and a hand held camera might be possible. Also take photos of the same subject from many different angles. The vehicles are so interesting and can look very different on every side especially when nature is growing all around them.
