Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph along a country road near my home in Southeast Idaho.

Time

This photo was taken in the late afternoon with the setting sun to my back.

Lighting

I can't say enough about good afternoon lighting when the shadows start to grow.

Equipment

This photo was obtained with a Nikon D90 with Nikkor 70-300 mm zooms lens attached.

Inspiration

During the winter months pheasants can be spotted along the sides of the roads making close encounters fun with the camera.

Editing

This image was cropped with some minor adjustments to the exposure.

In my camera bag

I keep my camera bag and equipment simple. The Camera I have in my bag today is a Nikon D610 with a single lens; a 28-300 mm Nikkor zoom. I carry cleaning supplies that include a bulb type/rocket air blaster along with Q-tips and extra satin cleaning cloths. However I don't like to clean my camera in the field it's nice to have what is needed.

Feedback

Pheasants don't normally give us much time to fool around, so my recommendation first would be to have your camera setting's where you want them before you approach one of these fast Birds. If you have more than one bird at once, pick one quick and don't hesitate to release the shutter before they're gone. This particular pheasant gave me several opportunities but this is the one shot that the birds shadow truly mirrored the shape of he bird.
