Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph at Zoological Garden, Delhi.....in India.

Time

It was mid day. The month was not expected to be so warm, but unfortunately it turned out to be. The heat had forced the animals to take cover, and a lot of patience was required to catch a glimpse of them.

Lighting

The lighting was natural, but it being mid-day, the subject was getting highly contrasted.

Equipment

I used my Lumix DMC FZ100, without flash and a tripod.

Inspiration

It was a tough shoot. Firstly, the animal would not come out of its cage. And, whenever it did, it would keep walking fast and continuosly from one side of the caged enclosure to the other. Its fast pace was leading to problem of focussing and getting it framed well. The biggest challenge was the big wire mesh (covered with some vegetation) that was obstructing vision and coverage of the camera. Its strand would come in the frame, and spoil the picture. So, I had to push in the camera lens in one square of the mesh, when the animal momentarily sat down, focus fast and capture the best pose that I could. Fortunately, my motion had alerted the animal, and he looked at me....while I finished my task quickly and retreated....luckily with one good image.

Editing

Minor colour adjustments on Microsoft Picture Manager.

In my camera bag

Just my camera, and the cleaning kit.

Feedback

No advice to be given. Each shoot is an experience in itself. However, for better light conditions, choose the dusk or dawn.
