When you hike for an hour and walk around boulders you could see the nymph lake. A scene worth the hike.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on one of my hiking trips in Colorado Rockies. Lake is around 30 min -1 hour of hike depending on the trail you take. I took the long route cut through several trails . I had researched up front about the spots in this trail and wanted to be there before sunrise.

Time

I started my hike early in the morning around 5:30 AM. By the time i reached the lake the sun was out and the fog was clearing off.

Lighting

Diffused early morning light gave the scene a pop which wouldn't have been there if I visited the lake later in the day.

Equipment

I usually carry my main camera body D800 and Nikon 14-24 and an extra D90 body with 14-24. Use a induro tripod and shutter release.

Inspiration

Trip to Rockies usually gives me the best opportunity to take good nature/landscape shots. The early morning diffused light and fog on top the lake was breath taking. I had to capture the moment. If I had waited more than 15 mins the fog would have disappeared the photo would have looked different. Right time and right moment is what helped me the most in this photo

Editing

Post processing was simple- Changed the contrast and added some additional vignetting to keep the attention in the center of the photo.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my main camera body D800 and Nikon 14-24 and tamaron 70-200 and an extra D90 body with 14-24. Use a induro tripod and shutter release.

Feedback

My advice would be to research a lot about the place you want to take picture. Understand the sunrise and sunset time. Scout and sketch the place if you have time and go at the right moment. Have a mental picture of your photo before you press shutter release and compare the actual photo to your mental picture.
