Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken during my daily walk to work down the National Mall. I'm a self taught photographer who was looking for a way to make the journey more interesting. The U.S. Capitol is my favorite buildings in Washington, DC.

Time

This is one of my favorite image of the U.S.Capitol Building during the restoration project in 2016 with scaffolding at the base of the dome. I took this photo around 6a mid-point from the Washington Monument and the National Art Museum. I discovered the best time to get the most amazing sunrise photos of the Capitol was between 5:30a-6a.

Lighting

I was using a point-and-shoot camera and as an amateur realized tilting the camera would create a dynamic effect.

Equipment

This photo was shot on a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS19 20x. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I walked down the National Mall for over 29 years. I had the pleasure of seeing the U.S. Capitol Building from different angles and lighting during the four seasons. for over 29 years. I saw the most amazing beauty with this specific building. It was like watching a living and breathing piece of art depending on the time of day and season.

Editing

No post-processing adjustments were used on this photo.

In my camera bag

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS19 20x. Two extra batteries and 4 SD cards.

Feedback

Be aware of your environment and the daily changes depending on the time of day and weather conditions. Dawn and dusk can provide creative photos.
