Location
I took this photo in La Jolla, near San Diego. I was travelling on the West Coast of USA with two of my friends, and we stopped at Salk Institute, the famous work of architect Louis Kahn. The architecture is intriguing and the play of light is just fascinating.Time
It was in January, 2014 around lunch time, 1 or 2 p.m. It was very warm and sunny, which I thought was awsome, since I live in Europe and it is very cold in this month. I think that no matter what time I would take this photo, it would be terrific, due to composition of the space and dimensions. They just draw you in and it does not require any specific effort with the camera to make it look great.Lighting
I love the contrast of dark and light. The architecture is light in color, strong, durable, but it gives a feeling of lightness. I think the lightning makes it appear gentle and it gives a positive vibration, even though this is a biological research center.Equipment
I used Canon PowerShot SX120 IS. I have to admit I am a complete amateur, and I don`t use any other equipment than this camera. So I try to do my best with what I got - my feeling for aesthetics and a little bit of knowledge of Photoshop :)Inspiration
I am a landscape architect, and one of my passions is photography. Where ever I go, I take photos of everything that gets my attention. What inspired me here was a calm and positive vibration of the space and the composition of all elements included. The water looks like it flows to infinity and the play of light is just magnificent. It makes me wanna go back and just sit on the curb and breath in the fresh sea air and listen to the water flow.Editing
I just repaired the contrast and added a black and white filter in Photoshop and played with it untill I thought the balance was right. And that is it :)In my camera bag
Truthfully, I only carry my Canon PowerShot SX120 IS and my Samsung Galaxy S III with me. I don`t have any additional equipment. I plan to get some better one in the future, but I think you can do a lot with a camera, simple as this one, if you have a feeling for it and a great joy for taking photos.Feedback
My advice is to observe the space, pay attention to any interesting details, walk around, notice the spirit of the place and just click click click. I do not use any specific way to do this. Just observe and let the space guide you to its best location for photographing. You will know when you get there by how everything comes together and coincides.
